For most people, I would say you can easily size down in this dress. however, if you need room over the shoulders (there's no stretch to the shoulders) or hips (the top tier seam falls around the hips), then stick with your regular zippered size. The smocking all around the bodice allows most to be able to size down - I'm wearing a M instead of L in the photos and video!
